December 11 – Isaiah 25:6-9

“On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined.

And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations.  He will swallow up death forever.”

Zion is not only about nationalistic Zionism – a movement to gain land for Israelis.  Zion is also the spiritual home for many people of other nations.  Consider Psalm 87

Psalm 87

 1 He has set his foundation on the holy mountain;

2 the Lord loves the gates of Zion

more than all the dwellings of Jacob.

3 Glorious things are said of you,

O city of God:      Selah

4 “I will record Rahab and Babylon

among those who acknowledge me—

Philistia too, and Tyre, along with Cush—

and will say, ‘This one was born in Zion.’ ”

5 Indeed, of Zion it will be said,

“This one and that one were born in her,

and the Most High himself will establish her.”

6 The Lord will write in the register of the peoples:

“This one was born in Zion.”     Selah

7 As they make music they will sing,

“All my fountains are in you.”

“Rahab” is Egypt, “Cush” is Ethiopia, so this psalm envisions nations from all points of the compass as being citizens of Zion.
